Happy Water

Happy Water - a blog from the trip to Seoul, September 2010.

And you can find a recipe submitted by Alice, our translator, in the Touch Recipe Book.

Seoul from Residency Space_Mullae

Friday 17th September:

Field recording workshop at Anyang River, near Seoul

When the representatives of the river project (see study on River Environmental Consideration for Restoration of the Degraded Urban River in Korea) listened to the sound from the hydrophones, the reply came: "The water is very happy".

Jana Winderen recording using hydrophones on the river

Saturday 18th September:

Performances and installations at Saii

... and the Sugar bar afterwards

Sunday 19th September:

Talks at Saii: Sound & Memory

Mike Harding
Jana Winderen

Night recording with Jiyeon Kim and Jana Winderen at Anyangcheon

Monday 20th September

Talks and presentations at The British Council

Live performances at Space Hamilton

On Tuesday 21st September there was a massive thunderstorm with torrential rain lasting all day. Space_Mullae's electrics were knocked out after the basement flooded, leaving the block with no power and no water...

Here is the fireengine pumping out the water later that night

and here is Jana recording the thunder and rain... it was one of the biggest storms we had ever witnessed

Fun for a while, candlelight, bottle of wire, but all the food in the fridge and freezer was thrown away, toilets could not work, no showers and no air conditioning... and the poor French dance company who are still there continue to suffer...

Meanwhile the Happy Water trip has ended and we are now back home...
